How using Chiropractic as your 1st choice for pain treatment could save your life and help you avoid becoming a drug addict.
Since 1999 over 165,000 people have died from overdoses of Opiod drugs.
Examples of opioids are: Painkillers such as; morphine, methadone, Buprenorphine, hydrocodone, and oxycodone. Opioid drugs are sold under brand names including: OxyContin®, Percocet®, Vicodin®, Percodan®, Tylox® and Demerol® among others. Heroin is also an opioid and is illegal.
Death from Opiod drugs has quadrupled since 1999. In 2014 alone, over 14,000 people died from an Opiod drug overdose according to the government’s Center for Disease and Control (CDC).Just as staggering as the mortality numbers, is the fact that in 2014, another 2 million people either abused or were addicted to Opiods.
Opioids are so commonly prescribed that the United States now consumes 80% of all the Opiod prescriptions in the world.
How did Opiod use become so big?
The answer is simple… Pain!
Opidod’s are one of the most common drugs prescribed by medical doctor for pain treatment. Common sources of pain are: acute injuries, pain from chronic degenerative conditions, cancer treatment, surgeries and back pain.
Back pain is one of the most common causes of pain that Opiods are prescribed for. The reality is that 80% of people in the United States will experience back pain at some point in their life. Back pain is the #1 cause of time missed from work, besides the common cold, and the #1 cause of disability in the United States.
In the United States, we have become “addicted” to treating pain, and almost every other symptom or condition, with a drug as well. (i.e heartburn, headaches, stress, sleep problems…ect.) Sadly, drugs are so widely used that the United States consumes 56% of all the prescription drugs in the world, yet we are only 4.4% of the world’s population.
While there are some necessary uses for lifesaving medications and medications to help with acute problems, the reality is that drugs rarely, if ever, actually treat the true cause of the problem. We also know that every drug has some sort of a bad and or even deadly side effect.
So what is the answer?
The most logical answer would be to shift from using drugs as the first choice for treating pain, to using “natural” effective pain relief as the 1st option.
That’s where the Chiropractic comes into play.
Chiropractic is #1, all natural, proven to be the most effective, cost effective and statistically safest from of treatment for many pain related problems.… and Chiropractic actually works to treat the cause of the problem, instead of just treating the symptoms or covering up the pain.
We know that pointing out the dangers and failures of the current drug and surgery based medical system might seem self-serving coming from a Chiropractor. However, our objective is to bring to simple common sense to the discussion.
Our office is the first to acknowledge the necessity and value of medication and surgeries at certain points in most people’s lifetime.…. But we cannot sit back silently and ignore our responsibility to educate the our patients and the public about the unnecessary dangers, out of control medical and insurance costs and with high prevalence of very unnecessary overprescribed opiates. The informed consumer can help move the needle back to the middle.
